Mark Miller – Managing Consultant

Mark is the Managing Consultant for Future Perfect Ltd – an operating division of General Physics (UK) Ltd. Future Perfect Ltd operate services in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. Future Perfect Ltd was acquired by General Physics (UK) Ltd in 2008. Having left KPMG in 2003 Mark became a founding Director of Future Perfect Ltd, a sustainability advisory business. The business is now a leading provider of verification services for Kyoto based schemes and fully integrated management systems, based upon Information Governance principles.

Mark was with KPMG from July 2000 to July 2003 as Director and Senior Executive for Sustainability Advisory Service in the UK. Responsibilities included the overall development and delivery of services and the maintenance of external accreditations. He has extensive experience in the Electronics and Information Technology sectors in addition to Sustainability and Health and Safety services. Mark also had specific responsibility for Automotive and Industrial Products markets.

Prior to this Mark held the post of Operations Director for the start-up certification business within KPMG. This required a full range of management skills from recruitment of technical staff, through development of internal management systems and finally integration into KPMG as a whole. Responsibilities included strategic planning, financial management, line management of 10 managers and operational delivery.

Previously Mark was responsible for business development projects globally within SGS Group, Corporate Head Office, Geneva. Responsibilities included the management and implementation of projects globally; training of auditing staff; program management of complex management systems for accreditation; and, the development and delivery of internal and external management training courses and seminars within SGS.

 

Principal Consultant

Peter has over 25 years of experience (both nationally and internationally) in the management of environmental and sustainability issues, and is both a Principal Environmental Auditor and a Chartered Environmentalist. Peter has an MSc in Forestry from Oxford University and an MBA from Warwick Business School. He has worked in a wide range of sectors including Biofuels and Biomass, Food and Drink, Oil and Gas, Power, Pulp and Paper, Service Sectors and Water Industries.

Prior to setting-up Future Perfect Ltd in 2003, an operating division of General Physics (UK) Ltd, Peter spent three years with KPMG working as both a Project Manager, Environmental Auditor and Greenhouse Gas Lead Verifier and was responsible for obtaining UKAS Accreditation for the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EUETS), UKETS and CCA Verification Services, and for ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification Services offered by KPMG Certification Services.

Peter has also been involved in many technical committees looking at these issues including the Emissions Trading Group (ETG) and the BSI Technical Committee looking at the development of the ISO 14064 Series on GHG Management Standards, and the ISO Committee looking at the application of ISO 14001 to Forestry Management.

Prior to joining KPMG, Peter worked for SGS where he was involved in developing a range of environmental and sustainability services including forestry management and chain-of-custody certification, social accountability, eco-tourism, Integrated Management Systems and early work on the verification of carbon sequestration by forestry.

Peter is also an experienced trainer and has developed and delivered training courses in many environmental and sustainability areas including Forest Management and Chain-of-Custody, Social Accountability, GHG Management and Verification for clients. Currently, Future Perfect has trained over 1500 GHG consultants and verifiers from over 50 countries internationally.

 

Andy Chatwin – Business Development Consultant

Andy is a highly motivated and organised individual who has worked in the public sector as a Civil Servant and the private sector, including those in the in the Insurance, Banking, Personal Finance, Debt Recovery and Property sectors, gaining a wealth of experience working with companies operating under strong cultures of business integrity and corporate responsibility.

With over twenty years of managerial experience Andy developed a wealth of experience in man management, Litigation, Management Systems, IT systems development Sales and Project Management, and during his time as Sales Manager for Co2 Energy Ltd developed a keen interest in both Commercial and Residential Energy Efficiency and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Prior to joining Future Perfect Andy was a Partnership Director for JKM Partner Services, providing business solutions to the Property sector and whilst at Co2 Energy worked with a team of Commercial and Domestic Energy Assessors to provide Commercial Energy Performance Certificates, Domestic Energy Performance Certificates, Display Energy Certificates and Air Conditioning Reports to ensure Commercial and Residential property owners comply with EU legislation.

 

Joanne Allsopp – Administrator

Joanne is an Administrator for Future Perfect and the main point of contact for clients and consultants. Joanne deal’s with all aspects of the customer and client relationship. Her responsibilities include the allocation of Future Perfect’s resources and the scheduling and co-ordinating of all projects to meet the demands and requirements of the clients both in the UK and Overseas.

Joanne is a highly motivated and organised individual who has worked in the public sector as a Civil Servant and the private sector.

Prior to joining the Future Perfect team Joanne worked as a Lead Skills Funding Agency Administrator for a training provider that specialised in providing Apprenticeship NVQ Training to members of the public within the workplace.

Joanne studied Business and IT before joining the civil service where she was employed by HM Prison Service for 15 years and, the UK Border and Immigration Service for 3 years.

 

Darragh Power – Senior Consultant

Darragh is a highly motivated and professional individual with extensive experience in sustainability, assurance engagements, audit, verification and training and development. Experienced across a range of industry sectors including energy; oil and gas; biofuel; biomass; hi-tech; regulatory and financial services. Darragh has trained management professionals in Europe, the Middle East and the United States; conducted audits in Canada, the United States and UK, against regulatory and meta standards; and trained verifiers for various standards in Europe, the United States and South East Asia.

Darragh has extensive experience of assurance engagements for the Biofuel Meta Standards, Biomass Meta Standards, Climate Change Agreements, Climate Change Levy and EU Emissions Trading Scheme, including Aviation. Darragh also provides consultancy in relation to the EU Emissions Trading Scheme and Carbon Reduction Commitment, and is a CEMARS accredited verifier.

Darragh gained 5 years experience with Xerox before joining Future Perfect in credit management, credit control, account reconciliation, and in resolving billing issues. This involved debt profiling, analysis of financial reporting, identifying and resolving problems and reporting of results. Many of the accounts worked on were 6 figure monthly invoices and involved 3000 or more data points.

Prior to this Darragh worked within the CIGNA healthcare corporation auditing health insurance claims to ensure they were processed in accordance with US federal and state laws, internal compliance and system requirements. Darragh has experience of extensively regulated (Sarbanes-Oxley, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Consumer Protection Acts etc) data driven environments, and is committed to the highest ethical and professional standards.

Darragh worked on a number of Six Sigma projects in both Cigna and Xerox and has research experience in both qualitative and quantitative data gathering and analysis. He occasionally lectures on the MSC in Education and Training Management course in Dublin City University, on a variety of topics including learning, professional skills, and online learning environments.

 

David Fairchild - Consultant

David is a versatile individual with a wide range of experience, including in the bio-energy, carbon management, forestry and construction sectors. He has excellent interpersonal, presentational and project management skills and a keen eye for detail. Since joining Future Perfect Limited he has worked on a broad range of environmental projects, providing and assisting with all aspects of environmental consultancy, verification and assurance.

Most recently David has provided audit, consultancy and assurance services for a number of Clients within the biofuel industry. These include supply chain audits; aiming to ensure compliance with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and Fuel Quality Directive (FQD). He has also been involved in the audit of traders and producers providing cargoes for RTFO compliance.

Prior to joining Future Perfect Limited, David worked as an independent Environmental Consultant with a variety of clients.  This included work with McDonalds Europe on collating and internally auditing the Carbon Footprint and Environmental Scorecard questionnaire for their European supply chain; developing a ranking matrix to rank suppliers on environmental performance through the Environmental Scorecard tool, which will be directly linked to the Supplier Performance Index; working with suppliers to identify key areas for improvements and reductions to increase resource efficiencies and developing the first ever targets for reductions and improvements on environmental measures within the McDonalds Europe supply chain. Other clients included Carbon Gold Ltd, Restorative Techniques Ltd and Virgin Management where David was involved in the early stage technical review of biomass entrants to the Virgin Earth Challenge, and retained as the biochar expert consultant, also providing regular updates of industry developments, reports and conference reviews.

David has an MSc Environmental Technology from Imperial College, is an associate member of the IEMA and has recently qualified as an auditor for the 2BSvs EC recognised voluntary scheme for biofuel sustainability assurance.

 

Lucy Candlin - Consultant

A founder member of Future Perfect Ltd - an operating division of General Physics (UK) Ltd, Lucy has over 28 years of sustainability/environmental, health and safety experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors. She formerly worked for KPMG’s Global Sustainability Services, following a career in technical consulting with the Enviros Group and a career in the Non Governmental Sector with BTCV and Groundwork.

With KPMG she was responsible for development and delivery of sustainability assurance related Asia where she was ultimately responsible for business development and management of the Singapore Company.

Lucy is an expert on management systems and has led the development and implementation of HSES policy, strategy and management systems for a number of medium and large companies in the oil and gas, electronics, security, engineering and aviation sectors. She has been closely involved in mentoring, facilitation and training to help clients to build effective and integrated systems, and achieve certification to international standards such as EMAS and ISO14001.

Lucy is also an expert in non-financial report assurance, covering design, development and auditing of non financial accountability, reporting and assurance processes; in particular this has been applied to CSR and GHG Reporting. For just assurance she managed the development of this social enterprise’s stakeholder inclusive assurance method, based on financial, technical and social accountability techniques and aligned to the AA1000AS Assurance Standard.

Lucy is a member of the Professional Standards Committee of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and also a Peer Member Assessor, regularly assessing applicants for their ability to meet the requirements for Full Professional Membership of the Institute and also for award of the Chartered Environmentalist qualification on behalf of the Society for the Environment.

In February 2008 Lucy was appointed co-chair of WG3/7 of the UK Emissions Trading Group, the main UK consultative body between regulators, operators and verifiers in relation to emissions trading; this working group deals with all aspects of monitoring, reporting and verification.

 

Dr. Gillian Marks - Consultant

Located in Southern California, and working internationally, Dr. Marks has trained and led multi-disciplinary teams, managed corporate and industrial projects, prepared technical reports, conducted public presentations of sensitive and technical materials, and led regulatory agency negotiations.

Gillian has a blend of hands-on technical experience and executive management skills that she applies to develop and deliver training worldwide. Gillian has been working and researching in the field of environmental compliance and policy implementation for over 25 years for public and private sector clients.

During her time at RATECH Resources, her main responsibilities were to spearhead technical teams, for the development of environmental compliance strategies at federal and state operated facilities throughout the United States, as well as to oversee product/client requirements, interface with stakeholder representatives and mentor technical product managers in methodology. Gillian developed and managed risk assessments on Edwards Air Force Base for the U.S. Air Force and NASA.

Gillian joined General Physics (GP) in 2009, during which time she coordinated efforts between GP and the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to ensure best practices in greenhouse gas reporting, verification, training, and carbon accounting associated with climate change policies. She also created and developed a nationwide in-person and web-based greenhouse gas and carbon accounting continuing education system for accountants, lawyers, and engineers, as well as providing oversight and project management for corporate consulting and advisory services in the areas of corporate governance and climate change policy.

 

Jim Brophy - Consultant

Jim is an energetic and enthusiastic person with considerable experience in a wide variety of roles relating to engineering and technical training gained over 40 years.

He originally completed an apprenticeship as an Electrical and Instrument Technician with the Royal Air Force (RAF). During his service career he took every opportunity to cross train and extend his engineering experience, qualifying in the following trades; Airframe, Propulsion, Radar and Communications, and worked in a wide variety of maintenance areas: Front Line Squadrons, Servicing Bays and Scheduled Servicing in Hangars.

As the Technical Lead and active member of a large team (engineers), Jim was responsible for the design, development and delivery of operational, engineering and management training across a wide area of technology’s for Royal Mails 600,000 sq foot automatic sorting facility in Slough, UK. The facility contained over 7 miles of conveyors and was reputed to have, the longest and most advanced conveyoring systems in the world at that time.

Jim has worked within the Telecommunication and Data Communication industry for a number of years, specialising in Optical Transmission Systems. Jim was involved in the design, construction, commissioning and provisioning networks in a laboratory environment, experienced in fault finding and performance monitoring functions.

Currently working a major UK Oil Refinery as a Training Consultant, Jim is assisting with the design and development of a programme for Field and Console Operators.

Jim also has experience of verifications related to the Climate Change Agreement and EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

 

Wilhelm Wang - Consultant

Having over 25 years of industrial experience in high-risk environmental health safety compliance, management system implementation, and spearheaded the sustainability assurance business at BSI Group, Wilhelm now leads associates at TransReg LLC, a New Jersey based management consulting firm, assisting organizations to better manage issues that are key to business sustainability, from greenhouse gas emission inventory and reduction, energy performance management, to integrated system management.

Wilhelm holds numerous professional certifications and lead auditor credentials on various international standards and is a qualified lead verifier for greenhouse gas emission assertion and corporate sustainability reporting assurance. Following decades of research and field validations, Wilhelm developed several proprietary business improvement tools including the Impact-Focused Assessment Process™ and the i-Impact Action Development Process™ that help companies to effectively identify, assess, and prioritize business risks and systematically formulate mitigation measures and actions to minimize negative impacts and maximize favourable returns.

Contributing his knowledge and experience, Wilhelm provides training delivery on GHG Emissions Verification within his role as a Consultant for Future Perfect. He also currently serves on several expert technical advisory groups representing the US including ISO/PC 242 and JPC2 for Energy Management, ISO/PC 250 for Sustainable Event Management, and is a member of WRI/ WBCSD Product Life Cycle Greenhouse Gas Protocol Technical Working Group. Wilhelm holds Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from University of California, Berkeley, and Master of Science degree in international business from St. Mary’s College of California.

 

Daniela Meilmann - Consultant

Daniela has over ten years of work experience in the field of sustainable development, with particular focus on business strategy and operational management. Over the years, she has developed rounded expertise (while working with government, SMEs, large corporations) in developing practical tools and world-class scientific methods for the assessment of environmental KPIs that promote innovation and sustainability.

She has deep knowledge of environmental management and reporting. By coupling work experience in diverse sectors and industries with significant client experiences with a large part of her work experience coming from advisory, project management, and consultancy roles, Daniela is able to achieve success when working independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Daniela is a chartered Environmentalist, and has worked as a Sustainability Project Manager at Clarence House for the Prince of Wales Office leading the Charities sustainability project. Prior to that Daniela worked as an Environmental Manager for the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF), consulting and advising IBLF Members (Hilton, Rezidor, Starwood, American Express, Marriott, Cadbury, Coca Cola) on sustainability issues (e.g. climate change mitigation strategies, Greenhotelier magazine), and also worked for the National House Building Council as an Energy and Environmental Advisor.

 

Diane Booth - Consultant

With over 20 years experience in waste regulation, safety assurance and environmental management, Diane has extensive experience working for complex infrastructure organisations. With a huge engineering bias, the need to engage customers, suppliers, government and other stakeholders in decision-making is fundamental to their success. She is therefore highly skilled in working collaboratively across organisations and influencing change.

Diane has managed many large projects supported by many resources from across organisations including SHE advisory panels; safety investigations; several carbon reduction strategies and footprints; vehicle efficiency/metering/driver advisory systems and training; climate change adaptation programmes; contaminated land clean up; design specification; sustainable procurement; and property new build and refurbishments.

Diane is currently sponsoring numerous cross organisation performance improvement programmes (c£160m) including sustainable procurement; zero waste to landfill; carbon reduction; on train metering; and sustainable lineside which incorporates reducing engineering, safety and security risk as well as improving ecological value.

She has provided management reporting, assurance, developed KPI and dashboard reporting and has grown her team’s work bank by building confidence, influencing change and delivering on promises.

Diane is a natural people manager, adept at bringing out the best in others and has been actively engaged in recruiting new graduates, providing mentoring and development and career planning for her team and several other CSR/environment colleagues.

 

Dr. Herb Castillo - Consultant

Herb has over ten years international experience in developing strategies for managing and reducing energy, resource consumption and associated climate change impacts; and measuring Greenhouse Gas emissions.

With a strong track record of managing and successfully delivering complex projects, Herb shows a demonstrable proficiency in applying robust methods for assessing the environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainability. These include multi-criteria decision analysis, carbon foot printing, economic appraisals, etc.

Herb has a successful track record of providing sustainability, energy and policy advice and engaging with senior and operational staff around sustainability issues. He is a recognised sustainability expert, with a Ph.D in assessing and measuring sustainability, and having published widely in respected international journals.

Herb has lectured on a number of modules on the MSc Programme: Preparing and delivering lectures on the suite of MSc. Sustainability and Management programmes at Queen’s University, Belfast. Modules taught include ‘Issues in Sustainability’ and ‘Sustainable Business Management’ and ‘Corporate Environmental Governance’.

During his time a Sustainability Manager for Phoenix Natural Gas, Herb’s responsibilities included Sustainability and CSR strategy development: he led the development of the company’s sustainability and CSR strategy which involved consulting widely with staff, engaging senior stakeholders to ensure buy-in and developing an implementation plan Chairing the in-house Sustainability and CSR Committee: Chaired and coordinated the in-house committee tasked with implementing the Sustainability/CSR strategy.

 

Monica Niermann - Consultant

An enthusiastic and self-motivated professional with over 5 years experience in carbon management and corporate social responsibility Monica has a wide ranging expertise in carbon footprinting, implementing carbon management projects and developing environmental sustainability strategies. Her personal strengths lie in communication, relationship building and an ability to liaise effectively at all levels. She maintains a strong professional network and continually enhances her knowledge and understanding in the field of climate change.

In 2010 Monica set up systems and undertook baseline carbon footprint calculations for ActionAid, and developed a delivery plan for carbon reduction.

Monica has worked for Christian Aid as an Environment and Travel Advisor, where her duties included the co-ordination of all aspects of environmental management and awareness raising across the organisation, and undertook carbon footprint calculations, monitoring and internal and external reporting to WRI GHG Protocol standards. Monica also developed and implemented a carbon management strategy, project managed various carbon reduction initiatives and implemented a corporate travel management strategy.

Prior to this Monica worked for the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, where she co-ordinated various sustainable travel initiatives and developed a host of internal communications on travel management and sustainability as well as calculating and reporting a greenhouse gas inventory for the Sustainable Development in Government report for travel.

 

Stephen Oliver - Consultant

Stephen is a mature, resourceful and persuasive senior manager with substantial international experience. With a record of success in many settings from development and marketing of disruptive new technologies, through to governance and organisational change in a not-for-profit setting. He is astute, analytical and creative, flexible and empathetic in a team environment. Stephen thrives working with and leading teams which have diverse backgrounds, skills and knowledge sets, with his confident presentational style suited to lobbying and campaigning.

Stephen founded an advanced dynamic testing software company as a spin-out from the University of Sheffield to commercialise patented technologies which delivers substantial improvements to testing accuracy and which reduce testing times by up to 80%.

Prior to that Stephen launched Fly Victoria (Victoria Aviation Limited), with a scheduled service between Exeter, Luton and Manchester, 30% load factors within 2 months, and successfully proved the viability of a new airline route between the west country, London and the north west, securing slots at Luton and Manchester and achieving breakeven load factors within two months.

As Manager of University Relations for Microsoft Research, Stephen was responsible for building relationships with senior Computer Science academics and “opinion-leaders” in Germany, Netherlands and Austria. He overcame significant market resistance to embed Windows NT and Windows 2000 as a viable platform for computer science teaching and research, installing over 150 research machines in universities in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. Stephen was also responsible for the European implementation of Microsoft Partner Network, introducing the Microsoft Certified Professionals programme into Europe, providing regional input into the definition of the global skills development and certification process that remains the cornerstone of Microsoft’s Solutions Channel even today.
